GLASS RECYCLING PROGRAM SUCCESS

(Kirksville, MO) ā€” The City of Kirksville would like to thank all area residents for making the first ten months of the Kirksville Glass Recycling Program a huge success.

Kirksville citizens began signing up for curbside service in November 2016, and the first curbside collection was held on December 5, 2016. To date, over 500 glass recycling totes have been disbursed throughout Kirksville. Citizens from surrounding communities have been dropping off glass at Community Opportunities, as well. The City collaborated with Advanced Disposal to collect the glass, and with Ripple Glass of Kansas City to haul away and recycle the collected glass. On September 13, 2017, the first semi-trailer full of glass was hauled away to be recycled, containing a total of 23.41 tons of mixed glass!

The Curbside Glass Recycling Program is a free monthly service for Kirksville residents, and is as easy as 1-2-3! To participate, follow these 3 easy steps:

1. Visit City Hall at 201 S. Franklin St. to sign up and order an approved recycling tote for a one-time fee of $3.99. The fee is due at the time of sign up.

2. Pick up your tote!

3. Place your approved tote full of recyclable glass curbside the first Monday of every month for Advanced Disposal to collect! If your tote is not picked up, leave it curbside, and it will be picked up the following day on Tuesday.

Residents from the surrounding area are encouraged to utilize drop-off bins located at Community Opportunities, 1001 S. Osteopathy. As a reminder, all colors of drinking glasses, vases, and food and beverage containers will be accepted. These categories include things such as bottles and jars, and there is no need to remove your lids and labels! We cannot accept windshields, Pyrex, ceramic, porcelain, or china.

The program was funded in part by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources through the Region ā€œCā€ Northeast Missouri Solid Waste Management District, and Ripple Glass. For further information about registration, call the Finance Department at 660.627.1251.
