Council Statement Regarding Administrative Search Warrants
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COUNCIL STATEMENT REGARDING ADMINISTRATIVE SEARCH WARRANTS
(Kirksville, MO) —The City Council would like to update Kirksville residents regarding the discussion of Administrative Search Warrants. Any further consideration of Administrative Search Warrants has been postponed. The Council feels there is insufficient evidence that Administrative Search Warrants are necessary at this time.
While there have been, on average, one to two cases annually where an Administrative Search Warrant could have been useful to resolve significant violations of City ordinance, those cases were resolved through the process currently in place and with the assistance of family members and emergency service personnel. If the proposal is again brought before the Council, the necessity of such a procedure must provide in greater detail compelling reasons why our current process is not effective. The Council feels that the draft Administrative Search Warrant ordinance was too open-ended.
The Council appreciates the feedback they received from residents regarding this issue. For more information please contact City Manager Mari Macomber by calling 660.627.1225.
